Membership Categories
Pre-registered Teacher
Teachers who have gained Intermediate Level with any dance association but have not yet qualified with the society may become Pre-Registered. Pre-Registered teachers may enter pupils for examinations providing the syllabus work has been studied with a qualified member of the society. Pre-Registered members may only enter students for examinations up to Intermediate level. Pre-Registered members would be expected to take a Student Teacher or Associate qualification within three years.
Affiliate Membership
- Any UK teacher who is qualified with a Society or Organisation recognised by the Council for Dance Education & Training may join as an Affiliate Member. International teachers with equivalent qualifications or teaching experience may also apply for Affiliate Membership.
- Any teacher who has gained Professional Status in Dance and has a minimum of two years teaching experience may apply for Affiliate Membership. (e.g. teachers who have danced with a Professional Company and have specialist teaching knowledge)
- Any teacher who has gained a recognised academic qualification in dance may join as an Affiliate member
An Affiliate Member may enter pupils for examinations providing the syllabus work has been studied with a qualified member of the society.
Musical Theatre Affiliate
This category is open to dance schools who only wish to teach PTD Musical Theatre Part I (Acting, Mime Singing) and have suitably qualified staff.
Hip Hop Affiliate
This category is open to experienced dance teachers who only wish to teach the PTD Hip Hop syllabus.
Student Member Status
Student member status is awarded to students on successful completion of the Intermediate examination.
Teaching Qualifications by Examination
Student Teacher (St.Teacher PTD)
Student Teacher membership is awarded on successful completion of a Student teacher examination in any chosen genre. The minimum age for examination entry is 16 years. Candidates must have passed the Intermediate examination in that particular genre and have six months teaching experience under supervision with a qualified member of the society.
Associate Membership (APTD)
Associate membership is awarded on successful completion of the Associate examination in the chosen genre. The minimum age for examination entry is 18 years of age. Candidates must hold an Intermediate certificate in the chosen genre and have had at least one years teaching experience.
Licentiate Membership (LPTD)
Licentiate membership is awarded on successful completion of the Licentiate examinations. The minimum age for examination entry is 21 years. Candidates must have passed the Advanced Foundation examination of the chosen subject and Associate status must have been held for a minimum of two years.
Fellowship*
Fellowship is gained by successful completion of the Fellowship examination. The minimum age for examination entry is 25yrs. Candidates should have passed the Advanced examination in the chosen subject. Licentiate status must have been held for at least two years.
